english portfolio

REFLECTION:
I have to say that this portfolio was kind of easy, but since I didn't start it early enough i had to rush through it and finish it.  BUt this project was sort of fun because it was fun making my own website and choosing what i wanted to put on their.  It was also a challenge because I never had to do anything like this before, but now i know how and have learned.  I am pretty proud of my portfolio.

KC3 draft

Living in Hawaii has so many advantages.  But since we are such a remote island that we have to get our gas shipped here, which raises the prices of our gas.  That is just not right!  Hawaii is a paradise but with the high prices of the gas, it isn't paradise.  People are paying too much for gas.    Our gas prices are the highest in the nation.  Our island would be perfect if it weren't for the gas prices.
Did you know that the prices of gas all over the nation are dropping besides the gas prices in Hawaii.  But sadly, our gas prices are still rising.  That’s not right, I believe that since the prices of gas in the mainland are dropping.  Just because the gas has to get shipped here doesn't mean that they should rise the prices.  Hawaii is paying 75 cents more then the national average.  We were also the first people to reach the four-dollar mark.  I know it may seem like a little bit of money.  But paying four dollars constantly will cost a lot in the long run.  Especially for my family, we buy gas so much because my parents have to drive my brother and I to our games and practices.
Secondly, the reason for our high gas prices is because we have high taxes and also because our gas gets shipped here.  What I think of that is just because of the taxes, our gas prices shouldn’t be high because everyone has taxes.  Hawaii has also become the first and only state that capped the cost of fuel to try and give the motorists some relief.  Apparently it didn’t work because it didn’t bring any relief to Hawaii motorists.
Lastly, the gas prices for Hawaii are the highest priced nationally!  Like I said before we were the first one to reach the four-dollar mark.  I also said before that it cost a lot of money to live in a place like Hawaii.  Did you know that on Oahu, we pay 4.40 for a gallon of gas?  On Maui, they pay 4.89 for a gallon of gas.  And in hila the gas prices are 4.51 per gallon.  And as for Molokai on two of their gas stations there it cost about 5.16 per gallon.  That it way too much to pay for gas.  In the Las Vegas Nevada, the gas cost only 2,85 for a gallon.  There is like a two-dollar price range.  And in North Carolina the gas cost 3.40 for a gallon.  Still that is a one-dollar price range.
In conclusion, I believe the people in Hawaii are getting cheated on their gas prices.  As you can see we are paying way more for gas then the other people around the nation.  Just because we get the gases shipped here doesn’t mean that they should charge us more for gas.  Also people might not want to come here anymore because they have to pay for the gas.  And when people come here they drive all over the islands to see the sights.  And that will cause them to buy a lot of gas to go see everything.  They should lower our gas prices because it is just ruining our paradise.

Querencia draft

My Querencia is the beach house.  As my parents are running around the house to get the things they need, i am lying down on my couch watching television waiting to go.   I tell my mom " hurry up mom get ready lets go, I am ready."  They say "maybe if you help us out then we can go."  So i start to help my parents get all their things ready to go.  We are finally done packing and ready to go.  Time to have some fun!
On the drive to the beach house at makaha, I take a nap because to me when i go sleep times goes bye faster.  And as soon as I wake I ask my parents where are we?  They say " we are at the beach house!"  I see my teammates and run out of the car and give them a big hug.  I was so happy to see them, I haven't seem them in like two months.  They take me into the beach house and show me around, then they take me outside and show me the tent that I am going to sleep in.  After since I didn't feel like swimming we stayed inside of the house and watched television and fed our faces til we are full.  Then we smell things coking on the grill and all of a sudden one of the girls dad say " dinner time."  We all run to the kitchen get our food.  After we finished eating, our whole soccer team, parents, siblings, and coaches are outside the beach house talking and cracking jokes at each and roasting the mashmallows and making smores.  The night is almost over most of the siblings and parents are going to sleep, but Jayna, Breanne, Mariko, Kasey, Nikki, Cailla and I are still up.  We are watching the rest of the parents make a fool of themselves.  They are dancing and singing, they were hilarious!  At 2:30 in the morning Jayna, Breanne, Kasey, Cailla and I are the only girls still up so we decided to go eat some cup noodles.  After that we went in our tents to go lie down.  Then we fell asleep to the soothing sounds of the waves

It is 6 o'clock in the morning everybody in my tent wakes up and go inside the house for breakfast.  For breakfast we have donuts and fried rice.  It tasted delicious.  Afterward we got changed into our bath suits and it is time to go swimming!  As we get to the beach one of our teamates dive into the beach and she screams.  She said the water is freezing, but then she stayed in their for a while and she was like it is warm now you guys can come on, so we all jumped inside of the beach.  After a while we got bored of just swimming so we got out of the water and buried 4 of our teamates in the sand.  They couldn't get out unless we helped them out.  Afterward, me and one if my teamates named cami had and idea.  Since there was a hill in he sand, we decided to make a slide so that we could slide down the slide on the boogie board into the beach.  After we finished the slide I tryed it out and it was succesful!  The slide worked i got down the slide to the beach.  Then everybody else tried they had a blast!  Then I kept going and then i tried standing on the boogie board and goin gown the slide, the first time it wasn't succesful i fell. But the next time I went it was succesfuli  made it down the slide to the water.  Then after the slide we grabbed all of our belongings and walked back to the beach house.  When we got to the beach house, we cleaned up and ate lunch.
Our weekend at the beach house was finally over.  We had such a fun time.  I was really glad to see my teamates.  But we finally left.  I will never forget the weekend I went to the beach house with my soccer ohana!

Roots and recipes... DRaft

Roots and recipes (draft)
Do you know why most foods with the name of California in it have avocado in it? Well that is because using avocado in many foods started in California, and there were a lot of avocados in California.  Every time my family comes to dinner to dinner at my grandparents house and see the California Maki sushi, they are all so happy.  We rarely ever have California Maki Sushi.  After my interview with my grandpa I have learned so much about the sushi and how he makes it.
Here are the ingredients that you use and how you make it.  You need short grained rice, imitation snow crab, tobico, sugar, mayonnaise, cucumber, avocado, sushi mat, sesame seed, sushi vinegar, and salt.  First you cook the rice and season it with sushi vinegar.  Then you mix imitation snow crab, tobico, sugar, and mayonnaise then you have crab salad.  Next you mix the rice with sushi vinegar and salt.  After that you put the nori on the sushi mat and put rice on the nori the sesame seeds on the nori.  Then you put a piece of saran wrap on it and flip it over.  Then you spread wasabi on the opposite side of the nori without the rice and put on slices of avocado and cucumber and crab salad.  Lastly, you tighten up the sushi and press it down slightly to make it more firm.
During the interview I asked my grandpa a few questions.  One of them were how did you learn to make this sushi. He said that he learned by watching my grandma make it. I also asked him if it is hard to make sushi.  He said that at first it is hard to learn.  As you go on and you practice though, it gets easier.
Hopefully I can learn how to make this sushi as well as my grandpa can.  So that I can teach my children and so on how to make it so I can pass on the recipe.  My whole family loves this sushi they say it tastes so delicious.  As for me, I don’t really care for it even though my grandpa works so hard and long on it.  I hope that one day I will be able to love the California Maki Sushi as much as my family does.

Roots and Recipes: Food Choice

The Japanese side of my family likes to make sushi so they can express their culture through their cooking. My grandparents from my Japanese side of the family specializes in making California maki sushi rolls for special occasions.
Having these are a treat, because we don't get them very often. The avacado in the middle makes it creamy, and the cucumbers make it crunchy - the perfect combination! It tastes so good.
This recipe was created by my grandpa, he loves to cook and share his food with the rest of the family. I hope that I can continue to share his recipe to my children, and them onto their children, and so on.

My food is California maki sushi and I will be interviewing my grandpa.
